The linear yellow objects are cutinite with crenulations The red areas are vitrinite and the dark features are inertinite. The small yellow stringers are sporinite. Note the deformation of the cutinite in the center of the field around the two larger inertinite macerals. This indicates that the inertinites were rigid when it was incorporated into the peat that formed the coal. (transmitted light, Harlan Seam, eastern Kentucky, width of field, left to right: ~350 µm)
