The red material here is vitrinite. All of the yellow features are sporinite. Note the large black inertinite in the center right. Note the deformation of the vitrinite around the inertinite. This indicates that the inertinites were rigid when it was incorporated into the peat that formed the coal. The overall texture of this field shows vitrinite acting as a matrix in which all of the other macerals are embedded. .
