The large irregular material in the lower center of the field is fusinite/semifusinite.  Note the deformation of the other macerals around it that indicates that the inertinite was rigid when it was incorporated into the peat that formed the coal. The red material here is vitrinite. All of the yellow features are sporinite. (transmitted light, Harlan Seam, eastern Kentucky, width of field, left to right: ~750 µm)
