The red material here is vitrinite except for the textured body of resinite at the center of the field. Note the deformation of the other macerals around the resinite body. This indicates that the resinite was rigid when it was incorporated into the peat that formed the coal. All of the yellow features are sporinite and the black material is inertinite. The overall texture of this field shows vitrinite acting as a matrix in which all of the other macerals are embedded.
