The red material is vitrinite except for the numerous ovoid bodies that are resinite. Note the deformation of the other macerals around the resinite bodies. This indicates that the resinite was rigid when it was incorporated into the peat that formed the coal. Also note the dark rims around some of the resinite bodies which are usually attributed to weathering before incorporation into the coal forming peat.
