Frame ID: TS55
The large ovoid and the smaller ones adjacent to it are resinite. The red matrix material is vitrinite and the black material is inertinite. Note the deformation of the other macerals around the resinite. This indicates that the resinite was rigid when it was incorporated into the peat that formed the coal. The striations running across the frame are artifacts from polishing. (transmitted light, Harlan Seam, eastern Kentucky, width of field, left to right: ~350 µm)
