All of the red material is vitrinite except for a few resinite ovoids. The back material is inertinite. The feature in the center of the field is a megasporinite. Note the darker area in the center of the megasporinite which is the contact where the top and bottom of the orinigal spherical spore came together. The smaller yellow material is also sporinite except for a cutinite stringer at the base of the megaspore. Note the sporangium at the lower right of the frame.  The white areas are holes in the thin section formed during the polishing process. (transmitted light, Harlan Seam, eastern Kentucky, width of field, left to right: ~350 µm)
